If you are starting to explore the world of brewing beer at home I am sure you have many questions, not the least of which is how much equipment does it take to set up a home brewery and how costly is it? Just like most things, when you home brew beer you can start very inexpensively and with just a basic equipment list. Or, if you prefer, you can spend quite a bit more, load up on a lot more equipment and devote a lot of space to your hobby. Both will provide you with very excellent beer so, really, the choice is yours alone.
So lets make an assumption that you are going to start small and work your way up. What type of beer brewing supplies are you going to need and where can you purchase all these items? Don't be intimidated, there are hundreds of retailers online who sell beer making kits and other supplies to the home brewer. Going back to our assumption that you are going to want to start small, this is a basic equipment list needed to successfully brew beer in your home. I should also point out that this equipment list is typical of beer kits sold online by retailers for less than a hundred dollars.
* Bottling bucket
* Fermenter with lid
* airlock
* bottle capping tool
* bottle caps
* racking tube
* siphon tube
* bottle brush
* thermometer
* hydrometer
* equipment cleaner
* instructions for use
* equipment cleaner
The only things you need to add to this list is the ingredients themselves and the bottles to put the beer in once it is done. You can usually purchase the bottles from the same retailers that sell the beer making kits and other beer brewing supplies. But be aware that bottles are heavy and will cost some to ship so plan on reusing them several times. This wont be a problem if you take time to thoroughly clean and sterilize them after each use.
The last thing you are going to need is the ingredients to put into your beer kit! Again the retailers carry a wide assortment of recipes with the ingredients pre-measured and almost guaranteed to produce a quality batch with each brew!
